Review: BlitzWolf BW-LT8 Motion Sensor Cabinet Light

Do you know of those little three-AAA-battery powered stick-on lights that you put in cupboards and under the stairs? Some even come with motion sensors, so that they come on automatically? Very handy little things.

The trouble is that the batteries run out. And faster than you'd like because a family member leaves the door ajar and then there's enough motion to keep activating the light, and so on. So you have to keep replacing the batteries over and over again. You could switch to rechargeables, but these are lower voltage, don't provide as much oomph and run out far faster, so it's a very tiresome job managing them.

Wouldn't it be easier to bring this lighting need into the 21st century?

Which is where this Blitzwolf strip comes in. Super-bright modern LED strip, internal rechargeable 1000mAh battery, accurate motion sensor, microUSB charging, 3 hours light per charge (so several months of life in real use).

What's not to love, for £15 or so? [Original buy link: BangGood, with possible 20% off via code 'LT82 '. Suggested link in the UK: Amazon UK]

The light is about a foot long, with a detachable, magnetic-clipped battery section. Six double-sided pads are supplied to stick this to any surface, even upside down (as we did). [A microUSB cable is provided, though surely everyone's got a dozen of these by now?]

It's all white, modern and very slick. The magnets in the end section mate with those at the end of the light, plus there are more pads to stick the battery section's bottom to the same surface - the bulk of this section slides away when you need to put it somewhere for recharging. Very clever.

On the section's top is a big motion sensor cluster/beam, a LED (lights red when plugged in to recharge), and an 'auto/off/on' switch. Obviously, the latter should be left in 'auto' when in position.

Under out stairs is a dingy cupboard and, in ten years in this house, we've never managed to light it properly. There's no mains socket and battery lamps run out too quickly, as I said earlier. But this Blitzwolf accessory has worked wonders:

It comes on when the door to the cupboard is open, it goes off when closed and, even when my family leaves the door ajar, if the light is left on and draining by mistake, it's a simple matter to detach the left section and recharge it. Free and quick.

Highly recommended. It absolutely works as advertised.
